Another busy week is coming to an end and we have very lucky to welcome a new starter into the class. The class have shown have shown wonderful kindness and care and we’ve been delighted by how quickly the new students have settled into the St Stephen’s community.
In Maths this week, we’ve been looking at rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 and it is a topic which always results in confused faces and furrowed brows. The class have done fantastically well and are making great progress in this notoriously tricky topic. The class have loved using special charts and counters to provide a visual support – Mr Lamb has not loved finding coloured counters in bizarre places around the classroom…
In History we focussed on the similarities and differences between the Ancient Greek and Modern Day Olympics (with the main one that stood out being what the athletes wore (or didn’t wear…). The class have retained so much information over the last few weeks and are starting to apply what they’ve learned across the topic.
On Tuesday it was Year 4’s turn to visit the library and we had a great time searching for hidden Roald Dahl book covers and characters. I was delighted to see such fantastic team work and I can rest easy in the knowledge that whenever I misplace something in the classroom, the kids are now experts at finding it! Alongside this task, we had a go at inventing our very own Willy Wonka chocolate bar, filled with whatever delicious (or in some cases, disgusting) ingredients we fancied. The culinary creativity on show was superb.
Finally, this week saw the very first pen licenses of the year handed to five of our most consistent writers. Their high standards of presentation have made it a pleasure to mark their books and their awards are richly deserved.
