Introduction
Our SEN Information Report – which is part of Durham County Council’s Local Offer – provides details about how we support children and young people with Special Educational Needs in our school.
The SEN Information Report was reviewed and updated on 30th June 2022.
At St Stephen’s CE Primary School we welcome all children, value their uniqueness and recognise that all pupils are entitled to a quality of provision that will enable them to achieve their potential. We treat all children equally and with respect and believe in positive intervention, removing barriers to learning, raising expectations and levels of achievement and working in partnership with other agencies in order to provide a positive educational experience for all our pupils including those with a special educational need or disability. All teachers within our school are teachers of SEN and we work closely together with pupils and their family to ensure that the needs of children are addressed and to meet the following aims;
- To adhere to the guidelines set out in the SEN Code of Practice;
- To identify children with SEN as early as possible and implement a program of support and intervention to cater for their unique needs;
- To ensure that all pupils have equal access to a differentiated curriculum which is broad and balanced and meets the needs and abilities of every child;
- To establish productive relationships with parents/carers to ensure our SEN pupils are supported appropriately both at home and at school;
- To establish effective working relationships with a range of other external agencies;
- To rigorously track the progress of children with SEN using our school tracking systems, review meetings, lesson observations, support plans and provision maps;
- To provide good quality, regular training for all staff which is relevant to areas of SEN and to school needs;
- To regularly evaluate the impact of staff training and provision/intervention programs;
- To ensure that all staff working with SEN children are clear about their roles and responsibilities;
- To ensure that the budget for SEN is used appropriately to source high quality resources for children with Special Educational Needs;
- To establish close liaison with other mainstream primary schools, secondary schools, and special schools.
Our school recognises there are particular groups of pupils whose circumstances require additional consideration by those who work with them to support their SEN.
At St Stephen’s CE Primary School we have appointed a Designated Teacher for Looked after Children who works closely with the SENCO to ensure all teachers in school understand the implications for those children who are looked after and have SEN.
