We’re writing our own stories this week; a series of paragraphs to tell the story of a creature who has arrived, without warning, causing a tremendous commotion as people become increasingly worried about the damage this imposter is doing to our town. Our focus continues to be good word choices, finding effective vocabulary to describe both the setting and the new character, as well as punctuation. Children are not only beginning to write in paragraphs but also use exclamation marks, question marks and commas correctly in their work Your child may be able to explain to you what rhetorical questions are.
Skara Brae is in Scotland and is a 5000 Neolithic village, older than Stone Henge, and shows us something of what life was like during Stone Age Britain thousands of years ago. You can find pictures of it on the internet and children may explain some of their ideas to you, tell you more about Stone Age life and how it was discovered.
We are learning a new song, Let your spirit fly, singing and also playing tuned and non-tuned percussion instruments. We are learning about rhythm patterns and tempo and following a simple musical sequence to add accompaniments to our song. Think Celine Dion meets K-POP demon hunters and you’re somewhere close. There’s not many songs that can’t be enhanced by the sound of an egg shaker. We’re so rock and roll. I’m pretty sure we have some future pop idols in the making. Mr Lamb is thoroughly enjoying PE with Class 3 and is very impressed by their dance moves. These chicks can certainly throw some shapes around. Their theme this week has been superheroes. For those of you of a certain age, in the words of Tony the Tiger…. “They’re Gr – r – reat!” (Ask a grandparent)
People often ask me to recommend books which children will enjoy reading themselves. We are LOVING Mr Penguin and The Lost Treasure by Alex Smith. We’re reading it together as a class book. Your child will be able to tell you about Mr Penguin and Colin and their progress to date in this adventure. The great thing is this is the first in a series of four adventure books about Mr Penguin, adventurer so you may want to keep a look out for these when in the library or sending ideas to Santa.
